Our work uses a variety of techniques to study protein structure and function; the main goal of our work is to figure out how enzymes use specific structures to catalyze interesting chemical reactions. The primary technique that we use is X-ray crystallography which allows us to identify the atomic positions within a protein. The pages here detail some of the work that we are doing, who we are, and some important links for crystallography.
HWI is an independent research institute that also serves as the Department of Structural Biology at the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences within the University at Buffalo. Admission to our graduate program usually occurs through the IGPBS, the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Biological Sciences at UB.
